DAVENPORT was selected by the City of Winston-Salem to design improvements for approximately two miles of Meadowlark Drive to provide better connectivity to an existing greenway. The city proposed a 3-lane curb and gutter roadway with sidewalks but it was discovered that parts of the existing roadway were outside of the City of Winston-Salem limits.

Our team quickly went to work, conducting preliminary engineering studies to develop an innovative solution. We were able to present a conceptual design that included widening one side of the road with the addition of a 10-foot multi-use path in lieu of sidewalks. This option allowed for the extension of the existing Muddy Creek Greenway and provided for connectivity of the surrounding neighborhoods. Our work also includes numerous enhanced pedestrian crossings to improve safety along the corridor.
