Winston-Salem State University Campus Access Study
In 2010 DTC was contracted to examine the WSSU campus access issues created by the proposed U-2826B project planned for US-52, Business I-40, and South Martin Luther King, Jr. Drive (MLK). The University has concerns about NCDOT's currently proposed Lowery Street access as a right-in/out. DTC assembled background traffic volume data to determine what the projected conditions would be within the study area without any modification to planned access, then reviewed all relevant plans within the study area, including but not limited to the proposed rail station at the intersection of MLK, Jr. Drive and the Business-40 EB Ramps/Lowery Street. These projects were included in the analysis as applicable. DTC then developed two access alternatives that provided full access. A capacity (LOS) analysis was necessary for both of these scenarios such that NCDOT could review how each alternative would function. This analysis was be conducted for the Design Year of the U-2926B Project.
