Project Geologist I

Job Purpose

The Project Geologist I will assist in performing field investigations, monitoring activities, and preparing technical reports. Experience with petroleum and hazardous waste related contaminated sites and the operations and maintenance of remediation systems is preferred.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Preparation of technical reports such as Limited Site Assessments, Corrective Action Plans, Comprehensive Site Assessments, and Annual Monitoring Reports

  • Perform QA/QC checks on tables, figures, and reports to ensure they meet guidelines established by the North Carolina Department of Environmental Quality (NCDEQ)

  • Collection of soil and groundwater samples for laboratory analysis

  • Supervision of monitoring well installation including recording of drill or hand auger samples, preparing soil boring descriptions, and preparing Site Health and Safety Plans

  • Perform air sampling for vapor intrusion monitoring

  • Perform tasks within allocated number of hours provided by Project Manager

  • Assist Project Manager with scope and fee proposals

  • Ensure project activities comply with OSHA and other governmental requirements

  • Maintain client satisfaction/confidentiality

Qualifications

  • BS degree in Geology, Environmental Science, or related field required

  • Minimum of 2 years of reporting and field experience required

  • GIT or PG license preferred

  • Experience with GIS preferred

  • Knowledge of the NCDEQ Division of Waste Management Guidelines and Regulations preferred

  • Experience with GPS survey equipment preferred

  • OSHA 40 HR HAZWOPER training preferred

  • Ability to use Microsoft Office suite required

  • Ability to lift a minimum of 40 lbs. without assistance
  • Field activities may require working in unfavorable weather conditions                         

Travel
Travel to sites (typically in NC) including some overnight stays may be required.
