Parking Study Analysis for Bennett College in Greensboro, NC
Parking Study Analysis for Bennett College
In February of 2010, DTC was hired as a sub to HADP Architecture,Inc. to provide a parking demand study for the Bennett College Campus. The City of Greensboro required the parking study to justify the reduction in parking requested as a result of the proposed development on the campus.
As part of this project, DTC collected inventory on existing parking facilities on school campus. Data collection for the parking lots was completed in accordance with the methodology prescribed in the Manual of Traffic Engineering Studies 4th Edition, published by the Institute of Transportation Engineers. Specifically, these parking spaces were surveyed in one (1) hour intervals for 12-hour period within the day. This study was conducted on three (3) week days when school is in session. Based on the site plan, DTC also determined the proposed additional parking lots to be developed as a result of the proposed development. Based on the data collected on existing parking spaces, DTC analyzed the data to determine the parking utilization with respect to parking demand and supply for each hour within the study period and also determine whether or not existing and proposed parking spaces will be adequate.
DTC presented a written report with recommendations based on the findings to address parking utilization for Bennett College Campus. The report was sealed by a licensed NC Professional Engineer.
