Galilee Missionary Baptist Church

In 2009, DTC was retained by Galilee Missionary Baptist Church to determine the potential traffic impacts of their proposed development and to identify transportation improvements that might be required to accommodate the impacts of both background traffic and new development traffic. The site is located at that northeast quadrant of the intersection of Northampton Drive and Oak Ridge Drive in Winston-Salem, and is the site of a former Bible College. Information regarding the property was provided by Virgo Gambill Architects and WK Dickson Inc. As proposed, the Galilee Missionary Baptist Church would have a 900-seat church building, as well as five (5) residential dwelling units. The site plan proposed two full access points on Northampton Drive. One access point was currently in place and was previously used to access the Bible College campus.  A second access to that facility was to be closed.

The traffic study included three intersections for the scenarios of existing conditions and future build/no build conditions. Traffic conditions were analyzed for both the Saturday and Sunday peaks. The study indicated that the project would have a minimal impact on the area, and that a right turn lane on Northampton Drive with 100 feet of storage was recommended, as well as the monitoring of the Northampton/New Walkertown Road intersection to determine if future traffic signalization is warranted based on volume thresholds.
