Job Description

John Davenport Engineering (JDE) is seeking an Environmental Engineer with 3 - 7 years of progressive experience. Position will be assigned to the Wilmington office of John Davenport Engineering. This is a mid-level position requiring organizing and performing various types of environmental investigations and general civil engineering.  Definitely a "hands on" type of position requiring experience with environmental site assessment and corrective actions for petroleum and hazardous waste related contaminated sites.  This position requires the ability to coordinate and perform field investigations as well as report writing and proposal preparation.  Knowledge of the NCDENR Division of Waste Management Guidelines and regulations are a must as well as the ability to prepare Tank Closure Reports, Limited Site Assessments, Comprehensive Site Assessments and Corrective Action Plans.

 

Typical Duties:

  • Prepare proposal for contract/delivery orders, set up/close out projects, write/prepare reports as necessary, control project costs, set and maintain client deadlines/schedules, review invoices.
  • Maintain client satisfaction/confidentiality.
  • Insure regulatory compliance for all project activities, insure compliance with OSHA requirements.
  • Survey/sample/auger/evaluate field conditions as necessary.
  • Prepare permit applications.
  • Produce and/or review all project correspondence.
  • Depending on workload, this position will be involved in various levels of Civil/Transportation Engineering design. This includes municipal, university, and military engineering services.
  • Primary service area will be NC; however there could be design work in VA, SC, and WV as well.
  • Some travel required including regular visits on job sites.

 

Basic/Required Qualifications

  • Four (4) year BS degree in civil or environmental engineering from an accredited university
  • EIT or PE registration required
  • A minimum of three (3) - seven (7) years of progressive experience
  • GIS experience utilizing GIS data in AutoCAD and/or MS Word for base-mapping and report location map preparation.
  • AutoCAD and/or MicroStation software experience is a plus
