Home to the United States Marine Corps Forces Special Operations Command (MARFSOC) Headquarters and The Lejeune Weapons Training Battalion, Stone Bay is a satellite facility located near Sneads Ferry, NC. Resting on the south side of Camp Lejeune and separated from main side by the New River, the core capabilities of the Stone Bay Facility are direct action, special reconnaissance, foreign internal defense, counter terrorism, information operations and unconventional warfare. As a result of an expected increase in the number of Marines from 500 to 2700, Stone Bay was undergoing significant growth and expansion. This project included the widening of Dixon-Sneads Ferry Road (NC Route 210), a new mile Connector Road with a multi-use path connecting to Rifle Range Road, vehicular and pedestrian bridges, and the requisite supporting infrastructure. As a sub-consultant, DAVENPORT provided transportation engineering services including a transportation impact analysis and corridor study which included an internal intersection analysis comparing a traffic signal versus roundabout intersection. DAVENPORT also provided design charrette presentations to facilitate the development of design solutions while integrating the aptitudes and interest of a diverse group of stakeholders. Our scope of work also included two new traffic signal design plans, and one temporary construction traffic signal design plan. Other services included construction phasing, traffic control plans and pedestrian signal design.
