Camp Geiger Access Upgrades Project

Camp Geiger is a United States Marine Corps Base.  Although not geographically connected, Camp Geiger is part of the Marine Corps Base Camp Lejeune complex and is home to the United States Marine Corps School of Infantry.  Camp Geiger is located south of Jacksonville, NC and shares the main gate of Marine Corps Air Station (MCAS) New River.  Camp Geiger is a hub of activity and a vital training center with approximately 20,000 Marines undergoing Combat Training every year.

The Camp Geiger Access Upgrades project goals generally focused on better road alignment, improved traffic flow and pedestrian safety, and design of a distinct Camp Geiger Entrance.  Davenport Transportation Consulting (DTC) was retained to provide transportation engineering services including planning, analysis, and design.  Multiple roadway and access improvement alternatives were evaluated in a design charrette process to guide stakeholders in determining appropriate changes to the Camp Geiger/MCAS New River complex roadway network.  DTC identified recommended transportation improvements to accommodate the impacts of roadway and access changes with analysis of forecasted future traffic volumes, followed by further transportation design services.

Davenport Transportation Consulting was contracted to perform the following scope of services for this project:

  • Transportation Impact Analysis and Corridor Study
  • Traffic Forecasting
  • Design Charrette Presentations
  • Construction Phasing and Traffic Control Design
  • Signal Design
  • Pedestrian Signal Design
